Type Design

For my initial research in creating these letterforms, I looked at many different fonts, glyphs, symbols, and characters. I then went to my sketch pad and played with shapes and lines before looking to nature for inspiration and sketching things like vines and trees and playing with them to turn them into letters. I finally settled on a thorn-like shape as the basis for my letterforms. I played with straight and curved lines in that thorn shape while working to maintain legibility. And the font name, Aculeus, is also a word the describes the natural element that inspired the font.
